How can you tell if you are an event professional? Well, there are a few ways to tell. First and foremost, you have to work in some type of industry powered by events – caterers, florists, djs, and wedding planners all have very different jobs, but they all rely on one thing: events.
But don’t get too excited; just because you’ve worked an event or two doesn’t mean you are an event professional. That would be like my cousin who has gotten paid to pick up dog poop a few times calling himself a canine-fecal removal specialist. To really be an event professional, your chosen career path must be related to events. And of course, there are a few other prerequisites to being an event professional:
When people look forward to the weekend, do you laugh at them?
Is your Monday Tuesday and your Sunday Monday?
Is your car your “mobile office” complete with supplies and a change of clothes?
Do certain colors offend you more than a normal person?
Do you know that Momzillas are worse than Bridezillas, but neither are as bad as Penny-Pinching Dads?
When you are a guest at an event do you check to see if the linen is seam up, or if the tea lights are still in the tin?
Do most popular love songs make you cringe?
If these things sound like you, then you, my friend, are an event professional. Welcome to the most exclusive club that anyone can join. Now go congratulate yourself by pouring a drink for yourself and sharing your stories on caterlife!
